Were you triggered by the Priestess dance last month at Slama?

It was at the top of the show, in darkness, with about fifteen female dancers on stage when Joel Mckerrow's voice read aloud: "Historically in Eastern cultures women lived in temples worshipping God and spirit and channeling divinity. These priestesses would deeply embody their goddess nature and share these gifts with their witnessers.” Then I, along with the other dancers danced a 'transmission' of our Priestess energy which is an archetype embodied in the conscious erotic dance course I had just finished called Dancing Eros. I knew it was a huge risk sharing this energy on stage. I knew there would be people in the audience that would feel triggered or offended by it and that's exactly why I knew I needed to facilitate it. Our intention was to harness our Priestess energy as a gift to the community. To call in our presence and the full presence of the audience. The Priestess is all about channeling the energy from the earth and sky into the heart while also being a body/security guard for the temple, allowing in and opening her heart only to those who are worthy. But when she opens her heart, oh she opens it so completely and deeply! 24 Moons used to be a strip club- and we also wanted to reclaim the feminine energy in the space. It was a phenomenal experience to ride the wave, from the first vision I had dancing her in my room all alone, facing all the doubt and shame of my inner critic and then seeing the group transmission come to life. Even though there were people who were triggered by the dance I am proud that I listened to my gut and did what I truly wanted to do without censoring in fear of being judged or labelled- because I believe so deeply in the work of Dancing Eros and that the Priestess energy needs to be exposed, witnessed and felt in our world today. Why do we feel so much shame, weirdness and suffering around seeing real women dance and stand in their full power!? I witnessed how my two communities fed, inspired and danced together and I'm going to call on this memory as a group of us dancers will offer the gift of our Wild Woman to the audience this month on July 31st. An amazing psychologist I've been following, Dr. Shefali Tsabary says when we are triggered it's the ego coming forward. If you were triggered by the Priestess dance or feel a resistance to the idea of women embodying their sexuality through the energy of these archetypes then I invite you to ask yourself what it is this trigger calling forth in you? What is it asking you to look at within yourself and be more present with? And I also urge you to consider doing Dancing Eros- because the bigger the resistance, the bigger the break through. I'll be assisting Shaney's course in September and I'd love for women from the Slama community to come join me in doing the course. (Again for me. I'll be doing them over and over until I die.) This month before the Wild Woman dance we will have a trigger warning as well as an indepth presentation/performance revealing her essence, what she is really about and how she is in every woman before we even dance/embody our expression of her. Take care of yourself, take self responsibility for what you need, ask/approach the Dancing Eros dancers, Slama crew or myself if you feel there is some way we can help you understand what we are doing. And bless you for reading this. May our community be a group of free thinking and feeling individuals accepting eachothers creative paths and learning from eachother. Aho.
