The Boy from Borneo

If I could live my life over again, I would be a mathematician or neuroscientist. 
Working in the field of Virtual Reality, in particular simulation, it seems overwhelmingly clear that our reality could easily be that of a computer simulation. The best evidence of that for me comes from world and universe creation tools like Outerra, or the PS4 game "No Mans Sky" which boasts up to 18.4 quintillion planets inside its procedurally generated universes. All complete with unique flora and fauna, mountains, sea and atmosphere. How far away are we from creating conscious life inside simulated universes? I would say less than 10 years.
